What’s in a Name?

 Texas Bello Doodles is what we call our breeding program and also a name held close to our hearts! In 1910, at the young age of 17, Suzi’s paternal grandfather, Crescenzo, said good-bye to his parents and brothers who lived on a small island off the coast of Naples, Italy and boarded a ship for America. He sailed into Pennsylvania and settled in the “City of Brotherly Love”, Philadelphia.  It was here that he planned to make a new and prosperous life. He fell in love with a young woman, who had also immigrated, married her, and together raised seven children.

As a natural entrepreneur, he longed to establish a successful business. Surely with the historical impact of the city he lived in on his mind, he chose the name ‘Bell’, after the Liberty Bell, as his business name.  Several enterprises were attempted, including a luncheonette restaurant, and Bell’s Ice Cream and  Fruit Ice (Italian water ice), which was doing quite well around the time of World War II.  Unfortunately, Christy Bell, as he became known in the business world, died in young middle age and never knew the legacy he left behind. After his death, some of his children started a beer and beverage distribution company using the name “Bell”. This industry still thrives today under the leadership of his grandson. Furthermore, his great-grandson not only uses the name “Bell” for his successful business, he operates his shop out of the original house where the first “Bell” venture began!

Not too long after Crescenzo’s  passing, the family legally changed their surname to Bell and then added an “o” to preserve their cultural ancestry and make it Italian…..”Bello”. We strive to live up to our family heritage and to bring you dogs that will turn heads and provide a life-time of joy for your family!
